"Ahhhh ok — so that comes out to about… [x/year]… (haha) I mean that's not too bad… but with an extra [$/year] on top of what you're making now — what's that do for you or even the family?"
"Got it — typically what we see from our top students the first month is anywhere between $500–$5,000 in profit… assuming you can put 30 to 60 minutes a day. Is that something you have the bandwidth for if the money made sense?"
"Ok so if [$/m] doesn't really move the needle for you then I really only wanna be talking about numbers that actually do make a difference… so hypothetically, what number would?"
If still no answer — move on to pain
"Love that this is something you wanna do with your kid… but you're the one who's gonna be putting time into this so it's gotta be worth your time too… typically what we see the first month is $500–$5,000… assuming 30 to 60 minutes a day. "Ooo… got it… yeah I've heard that's a tough field. How long have you been doing that for?"
"Oh… that's a decent amount of time… Let's just say in a pretend world — if you were making as much or more from sports cards as you do from your job… I'm assuming the goal is to at some point scale back and do this from your phone so you can [non-monetary goal]… right?"
"Nice — how much would you really need to be pulling in each month from sports cards to replace your income if you wanted to?"
"So I gotta ask — what is it about being a [job] where it kinda makes you maybe… open minded for a change? As opposed to doing that for another 10, 15, 20 years?"
"Nice — can't blame you. I try to have a couple income sources myself. So what would you need to make per month from cards to match what you're making from your job, if you had to put a number on it?"
"Got it — so I guess on a personal note, if everything is going well with [job]… why not just put in more hours into that?"
"Ahh got it — nice. You doing any side jobs or part-time stuff to bring in extra money? I'd imagine it's pretty hard to just sit still?"
"Nice — so what would you need to make per month from cards to really feel like it's replacing a solid income stream for you?"
"Nice — so what would you need to make per month from cards to match your retirement income, if you had to put a specific number on it?"
"So I gotta ask — then why not just keep hanging out around the house? Like… why even do something like this?"
If they dodge: "Yeah so I guess what's stopping you from doing it?"
"Got it — so I'm curious… what have you tried, or maybe even looked at or seen, that can bring in a side income? Like even stocks or real estate — anything like that?"
"(haha) Oh yeah my bad — I'm not even asking if you've tried these things… but obviously I'm sure you've at least seen or heard of stocks or real estate before, right? Which one have you heard about the most?"
"Gotcha — so what have you been putting the most time or money into specifically?"
"Ahh gotcha — so I guess, why not just put more time and money into that?"
"So then… what about [hustle] did you maybe… not love as much?"
"Ahhhhhh got it — ok. So it seems like obviously yes, we're all here because we wanna make more money… but for you specifically the real reason you wanna do this is because you want to make [money goal], [non-money goal], [pain of their job], [pain of what they tried]…"
"…so you started looking into sports cards so that [solution to their problem]. Am I missing anything?"
Don't move on without confirming monetary goal + true WHY
"Yeah… so honestly what I think would be best for you is setting you up with one of our head coaches… the guy I'm about to set you up with also happened to be my coach. He's Eric's right-hand guy."
"There's only so much I can show you on the phone… because obviously I can't show you the graphs and charts… but on a Zoom call you'd be able to physically see what we can do."
"What he's going to go over is exactly what he's doing that helped him build a 6-figure sports card business."
"So I took some notes on what you were telling me… and before the call with the head coach I'm gonna tell him to focus on how to build a business that can get you [goal]."
"And when he builds out that roadmap I'm also gonna tell him to focus on keeping it fun… so it never really feels like a job."
"So I have my calendar open now — do me a favor, open up your calendar really quick. And also by the way, what time zone are you in again?"
"Ok sweet — the call will be about 45 to 60 minutes. You have some time later today to hop on?"
"So the call will be on Zoom for about 45 to 60 minutes. I have some times tomorrow and the next day — which day works better for you?"
"Is it cool if we get you in here within the next few days? My system doesn't even let me book someone that far in advance. How does morning, afternoon, or evening work on [day]?"
"Sweet — and I noticed the time you chose is during [work day / dinner time]… you sure that'll work for ya? Or is there a better time like maybe later… or earlier… in the day?"
"And just checking — you're 100% sure you'll be in a quiet home or office environment and not like in your car or going grocery shopping, right?"
"Perfect — and just to confirm the name I have is [name] and the email is [email]."
"I'm also going to send you a calendar invite — if you could open your email to accept that…"
"Great — I'll have coach reach out to you personally. Expect a text within the next 5–10 minutes."
"Coach will give you access to a training we usually charge for — but I'll tell him to give it to you for free. Just take 2 or 3 minutes to give it a quick watch before the call."
"One last thing and then I'll let you go — when you receive the text in 5 minutes… just do me a personal favor and throw up a thumbs up. He'll also ask you a few questions before the call — make sure you get back to him so the call goes smooth."
